Our quick-release towing hook is designed to perform reliably on a wide range of maritime vessels, including workboats, supply vessels, harbour craft, coastal vessels, firefighting craft, and tugboats. The versatility of this towing hook means that it can be customised to meet your specific needs, such as load capacity and materials, and whether you require a manual or remote release mechanism.

Quick release towing hooks - type GSH

The Straatman GSH quick-release towing hook is specifically designed to ensure safe and efficient operations on a variety of maritime vessels, including workboats, supply ships, harbour craft, coastal vessels, firefighting craft, and tugboats.

You can operate the hook manually using either a lever or a rope, requiring only 33 pounds of force to release a full load. The two-step release system prevents accidental disconnections, and the balanced disc design makes manual resetting easy. The disc's rotation is carefully designed to minimise energy impact when the hook is released.

The GSH towing hook offers a range of Safe Working Loads (SWLs) from 15 to 100 tonnes, making it adaptable to a wide range of requirements and applications in the maritime industry.

Quick release of a towing hook

This video shows the principal function of our quick-release towing hook. In this case, it concerns a GSH-15 (SWL 15 tonnes), which is released manually by means of a rope.

Testing of quick release towing hooks

At our facility, we put each quick-release towing hook through a rigorous testing process using our precision-calibrated 3,500 kN hydraulic testing machine. This ensures that our hooks consistently meet our high safety and reliability standards.

For our disc-type towing hooks, including the GSH and BG-7 models, we conduct a thorough examination at twice their designated safe working load (SWL). The GSH-100 model is tested at 150% of its SWL. Additionally, we perform a release performance test at the safe working load for each hook, thoroughly verifying the efficiency and integrity of the release mechanism.

If you would like independent observers to witness the tests, we can accommodate your request.

Upon completion of the tests, we provide both factory and witness test certificates. These important documents are easily accessible as they are included in both the user manual and construction file. This ensures that you have immediate access to all the necessary certification and information about your towing hooks.

Specials

In addition to our standard range of quick-release towing hooks, we also offer a wide range of options and customised designs to fit your specific needs.

With our in-house engineering and manufacturing teams, we can quickly and efficiently respond to any special requests, ensuring your requirements are met precisely and promptly.

Recently, we worked closely with one of our key strategic partners to develop a hydraulic-powered shock absorber, tailored specifically for our smaller quick-release towing hooks.

As shown in the image to the left, we were also responsible for designing the integrated foundations for this project. These foundations are specifically designed to be welded seamlessly to the deck surface of the tugboat.

Quick release towing hooks - type GMH

Our GMH quick-release mooring hook can often be adapted to function as a quick-release towing hook for tasks with specific requirements and unique design elements. This dual capability is enabled by a standard attachment called a rope keeper.
