Our quick-release towing hook is crafted with precision to ensure secure functioning across a diverse array of maritime vessels such as workboats, supply vessels, harbour craft, coastal vessels, firefighting craft, and tugboats. Available with either manual or remote release options, it offers flexibility in design and can be tailored to accommodate your particular needs for load capacity and materials.

Quick release towing hooks - type GSH

The Straatman GSH quick-release towing hook has been crafted with the aim of facilitating safe and efficient handling across diverse maritime vessels such as workboats, supply ships, harbour craft, coastal vessels, firefighting craft, and tugboats.

Utilising either a lever or a rope, the hook can be manually operated, needing a mere 33 pounds of force for release when at full capacity. Designed with a two-step release system, it actively wards off unintentional openings, while the equilibrium in the disc design simplifies manual resetting. Upon release, the disc's rotation is calibrated to cut down the energy impact to a minimum.

Offering a versatile selection, the GSH towing hook caters to Safe Working Loads (SWLs) ranging from 15 to 100 tonnes. This adaptability renders it a fitting choice for various roles and needs within the maritime sector.

Quick release of a towing hook

This video shows the principal function of our quick-release towing hook. In this case, it concerns a GSH-15 (SWL 15 tonnes), which is released manually by means of a rope.

Testing of quick release towing hooks

In our facility, we rigorously test every quick-release towing hook using our calibrated 3,500 kN hydraulic testing machine. This ensures that our hooks are both safe and reliable.

For our disc-type towing hooks, the GSH and BG-7 models, we subject them to a thorough examination at 200% of their designated safe working load (SWL). The only exception to this is our GSH-100 model, which is tested at 150% of its SWL. We also perform a release performance test on each hook at its safe working load to verify the effectiveness and quality of the release mechanism.

If you would like independent observers to witness the tests, we are happy to arrange this.

Once the testing is complete, we provide both factory and witness test certificates. These documents are conveniently included in the user manual and construction file, giving you immediate access to all the essential certification and information about your towing hooks.

Specials

In addition to our standard range of quick-release towing hooks, we can also create and provide a wide variety of options and customised designs to meet your specific needs.

With the support of our in-house engineering and manufacturing teams, we are able to quickly and efficiently respond to any special requests, ensuring that your specific requirements are met with precision and efficiency.

Recently, we partnered with one of our key strategic partners to develop a hydraulic-powered shock absorber. This is a bespoke solution for our smaller range of quick-release towing hooks.

As shown in the image to the left, we have also designed the integrated foundations for this project. These have been designed to be welded directly to the deck surface of the tugboat.

Quick release towing hooks - type GMH

Depending on the specific needs and design features of a project, our quick-release mooring hook, the GMH model, can often be used as a quick-release towing hook. To support this dual purpose, the GMH hook comes standard with an accessory known as a rope keeper.
