Our quick-release towing hook is designed to ensure reliable operation on all sorts of maritime vessels, like workboats, supply vessels, harbour craft, coastal vessels, firefighting craft, and tugboats. This towing hook is versatile and can be customised to meet your specific needs for load capacity and materials, whether you need a manual or remote release.
The Straatman GSH quick-release towing hook is designed to ensure safe and effective operation on a range of maritime vessels, including workboats, supply ships, harbour craft, coastal vessels, firefighting craft, and tugboats.
You can operate the hook manually with either a lever or a rope, and it only takes 33 pounds of force to release when fully loaded. A two-step release system prevents accidental disconnections, and the balanced disc design makes manual resetting a breeze. When the hook is released, the rotation of the disc is designed to minimise energy impact.
The GSH towing hook is available in a range of Safe Working Loads (SWLs) from 15 to 100 tonnes, making it adaptable to a wide range of needs and applications in the maritime industry.

This video shows the principal function of our quick-release towing hook. In this case, it concerns a GSH-15 (SWL 15 tonnes), which is released manually by means of a rope.
At our facility, we put each quick-release towing hook through rigorous testing using our precision-calibrated 3,500 kN hydraulic testing machine. This makes sure our hooks meet our high standards for safety and reliability.
For our disc-type towing hooks, including the GSH and BG-7 models, we subject them to a thorough examination at twice their designated safe working load (SWL). The only exception is the GSH-100 model, which is tested at 150% of its SWL. We also conduct a release performance test at the safe working load for each hook, verifying the efficiency and integrity of the release mechanism.
If you’d like independent observers to witness the tests, we’re more than happy to accommodate your request.
Once the tests are complete, we provide both factory and witness test certificates. These important documents are easily accessible as they are included in both the user manual and construction file. This ensures you have immediate access to all the necessary certification and information about your towing hooks.
In addition to our standard range of quick-release towing hooks, we can also create and provide a wide variety of options and customised designs to suit your specific needs.
Our in-house engineering and manufacturing teams are on hand to quickly and efficiently respond to any special requests, ensuring that your specific requirements are met with precision and speed.
Recently, we partnered with one of our key strategic partners to develop a hydraulic-powered shock absorber. This bespoke solution was specifically designed for our smaller range of quick-release towing hooks.
As shown in the image to the left, we were also responsible for the design of the integrated foundations for this project. These bases are designed to be welded directly to the deck surface of the tugboat.
For jobs with specific requirements and design features, our GMH quick-release mooring hook can often be modified to serve as a quick-release towing hook as well. This dual-purpose functionality is enabled by the addition of a standard attachment known as a rope keeper.
