Our quick-release towing hook is meticulously engineered to provide reliable use across a wide range of maritime vessels, including workboats, supply vessels, harbour craft, coastal vessels, firefighting craft, and tugboats. It can be released manually or remotely, and it is designed to be adaptable and customizable to meet your specific requirements for load capacity and materials.

Quick release towing hooks - type GSH

The Straatman GSH quick-release towing hook is designed to provide safe and efficient handling on a wide range of maritime vessels, including workboats, supply ships, harbour craft, coastal vessels, firefighting craft, and tugboats.

The hook can be manually engaged using either a lever or a rope, and requires only 33 pounds of force to release at its maximum load. A two-step release mechanism prevents accidental disengagements, and the balanced disc design makes manual resetting easy. When released, the disc's rotation is designed to minimize energy impact.

The GSH towing hook is available in a range of Safe Working Loads (SWLs) from 15 to 100 tonnes, making it a suitable solution for a variety of applications and demands in the maritime industry.

Quick release of a towing hook

This video shows the principal function of our quick-release towing hook. In this case, it concerns a GSH-15 (SWL 15 tonnes), which is released manually by means of a rope.

Testing of quick release towing hooks

At our facility, we rigorously test each quick-release towing hook using our precision-calibrated 3,500 kN hydraulic testing machine. This ensures that our hooks meet our high standards for safety and reliability.

For our disc-type towing hooks, including the GSH and BG-7 models, we put them through a thorough examination at twice their designated safe working load (SWL). The only exception is the GSH-100 model, which is tested at 150% of its SWL. We also perform a release performance test at the safe working load for each hook to confirm the efficiency and integrity of the release mechanism.

If you would like independent observers to witness the tests, we are happy to accommodate your request.

Once the tests are complete, we provide both factory and witness test certificates. These important documents are easily accessible, as they are included in both the user manual and construction file. This gives you instant access to all the necessary certification and information about your towing hooks.

Specials

In addition to our standard range of quick-release towing hooks, we can also create and provide a wide variety of options and customized designs that are tailored to your specific needs.

With the help of our in-house engineering and manufacturing teams, we can quickly and effectively respond to any unique requests, ensuring that your specific requirements are met with accuracy and efficiency.

In a recent collaboration with a key strategic partner, we developed a hydraulic-powered shock absorber. This is a customized solution that was specifically designed for our smaller range of quick-release towing hooks.

As shown in the image to the left, we also designed the integrated foundations for this project. These foundations are designed to be welded directly to the deck surface of the tugboat.

Quick release towing hooks - type GMH

For projects with specific requirements and design characteristics, our GMH model quick-release mooring hook can often be adapted for use as a quick-release towing hook. This dual functionality is made possible by the inclusion of a standard accessory called a rope keeper.
