  • From Bollards to Quick Release Hooks

    11 June 2026

Straatman has been awarded a new project for the design and delivery of a complete mooring system for a terminal located in Morocco.

Every port and terminal operates under unique environmental conditions. At this terminal, strong currents can create high loads on the mooring lines. This makes it important for operators to have better insight into the forces acting on the vessel during mooring operations. To address this challenge, the client has decided to upgrade its existing mooring arrangement. The traditional bollards will be replaced with quick release mooring hooks. This solution will not only improve operational control. It will also provide valuable data on line loads during vessel berthing and mooring.

Load Monitoring for Better Insight and Control

As part of the project, Straatman Mooring Systems will design and manufacture a complete mooring system. It features quick release mooring hooks, integrated load monitoring, and a remote release function. The load monitoring system will provide real-time information about the forces on the mooring lines. This will help terminal operators make informed decisions and improve overall safety during operations.

Designed for Safe and Reliable Operations

The remote release capability adds another important safety feature. When operators need to release the mooring lines quickly, they can activate the release system remotely. This will reduce risks and improve response times.

Straatman will engineer and manufacture all equipment according to the terminal's specific requirements. As with all Straatman projects, the system will be custom-built to ensure reliable performance in the local operating conditions.

This project highlights the growing importance of data and monitoring in modern mooring operations. By combining quick release mooring hooks with advanced load monitoring, terminal operators gain greater visibility, improved control, and enhanced safety.

We are proud to support this terminal in Morocco with a solution that meets its operational needs today while preparing for future demands. Sometimes, a relatively simple upgrade can make a significant difference in the performance and safety of a mooring operation.
