  • Commissioning mooring system LNG Terminal Stade

    18 March 2024

Straatman has successfully completed and commissioned the full mooring system for the Stade LNG Terminal in northern Germany. The terminal, part of the Hanseatic Energy Hub project, will play an important role in strengthening Germany’s energy infrastructure and facilitating the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

As Europe continues to diversify its energy sources and increase energy security, projects such as the Stade LNG Terminal have become strategically important. The new terminal will support Germany’s LNG supply chain and help ensure a stable and reliable energy supply for the region.

Straatman was responsible for the manufacturing, delivery, and commissioning of the complete mooring system at the terminal’s jetty. The installed equipment has been designed to ensure safe, efficient, and controlled mooring operations, particularly for large LNG carriers and Floating Storage and Regasification Units (FSRUs).

The scope of the project included the installation of 150-ton and 125-ton triple Quick Release Mooring Hooks (QRH) equipped with integrated capstans. These heavy-duty hooks allow vessels to be secured safely while also enabling fast release in emergency situations.

In addition to the mooring hooks, Straatman delivered a Remote Release and Mooring Load Monitoring System (MLMS), which provides operators with real-time insight into the forces acting on the mooring lines. This system improves operational safety by allowing operators to monitor loads and release hooks remotely if required.

The project also included an Environmental Monitoring System (EMS) to monitor environmental conditions such as wind and weather, as well as a central control panel featuring Straatman’s MoorControl software. This integrated system gives operators a clear overview of the mooring situation and allows them to manage the entire mooring installation from a single interface.

The first arrival of the FSRU Transgas Force at the newly constructed jetty is expected by the end of March, marking an important milestone for the terminal.

Straatman would like to thank the project team at Depenbrock Bau for the excellent cooperation throughout the project. Together, the teams ensured that the system was delivered and commissioned successfully, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of this important new LNG terminal.
