Mooring System Commissioned at Stade LNG Terminal
18 March 2024
Straatman successfully commissioned the complete mooring system for the Stade LNG Terminal in northern Germany. The terminal forms part of the Hanseatic Energy Hub and strengthens Germany’s energy infrastructure. As Europe reduces dependency on traditional supply routes, LNG terminals become more important. Therefore, projects like Stade play a key role in energy security and supply stability.
Complete scope from engineering to commissioning
Straatman handled the full scope of the mooring system. This included engineering, manufacturing, delivery, and final commissioning at the terminal. We designed the system to support safe and controlled mooring operations for large LNG carriers and FSRUs. The installed equipment includes:
- 150-ton and 125-ton triple Quick Release Mooring Hooks with capstans
- Remote Release and Mooring Load Monitoring System (MLMS)
- Environmental Monitoring System (EMS)
- Central control panel with MoorControl software
Each component contributes to a fully integrated and reliable mooring solution.
Real-time monitoring and control
The Quick Release Mooring Hooks secure vessels safely and allow fast release when needed. At the same time, the load monitoring system provides continuous insight into mooring forces. Operators can monitor loads in real time and take action immediately if conditions change. In addition, the Environmental Monitoring System tracks wind and weather conditions. This data supports safer decision-making during berthing and operations. All systems connect to a central control panel running MoorControl software. This interface gives operators a complete overview of the mooring situation.
Ready for first operations
The terminal is preparing for the arrival of the FSRU Transgas Force. This milestone is expected by the end of March. Thanks to the installed system, operators can manage mooring operations safely, efficiently, and with full visibility from day one.
Strong collaboration
Close cooperation ensured the success of this project. We would like to thank Depenbrock Bau for their professional and constructive collaboration. Together, we delivered a high-quality mooring system that supports the safe operation of this important LNG terminal.
