Innovative Draghead in Production
6 januari 2025
Straatman Dredging & Construction is currently manufacturing a knife-type draghead with a movable visor for one of our dredging customers. This advanced design improves dredging performance while also addressing environmental considerations. The draghead includes several integrated features. These ensure efficient soil cutting and controlled dredging operations under varying conditions.
Advanced design for efficient dredging
The design incorporates an adjustable water inlet positioned above the knives. This allows operators to optimise the dredging process based on soil conditions. In addition, the draghead is equipped with jet nozzles. These support fluidisation of the soil, improving dredging efficiency and reducing resistance. The movable visor provides additional control during operations. It helps regulate the intake of material and improves overall performance.
Introducing the turtle deflector
For the first time, this draghead includes a turtle deflector. This marks an important step in making dredging operations safer in environmentally sensitive areas. The deflector is designed to gently guide sea turtles away from the draghead during dredging. As a result, it reduces the risk of unintended capture. This feature is especially relevant for projects in coastal habitats where marine life protection is critical.
Supporting sustainable dredging
Straatman has been active in the dredging industry since 1965. Over the years, we have continuously improved our equipment based on operational experience. With this new design, we combine performance, reliability, and environmental responsibility. As regulations become stricter and awareness increases, innovations like the turtle deflector will play a key role. They help operators carry out dredging activities safely and responsibly.
Straatman continues to develop solutions that support both efficient operations and environmental protection.
