Quick Release Hooks Upgrade in Greece

Straatman recently delivered a complete Quick Release Mooring Hook system for a terminal upgrade in the Saronic Gulf, Greece. The installation will support the expansion of an oil and gas terminal in the region. The upgraded mooring infrastructure will allow the terminal to handle vessels more safely and efficiently. Reliable mooring equipment is essential for terminals operating in the oil and gas sector.

Complete hook configuration

Straatman supplied multiple hook units for the terminal’s mooring and breasting dolphins. The scope of supply included:

• 8 triple 125-ton Quick Release Mooring Hook units for the mooring dolphins
• 8 double 100-ton Quick Release Mooring Hook units for the breasting dolphins

These hook configurations allow vessels to be secured safely while maintaining flexibility during mooring operations.

Fully engineered and tested in-house

All units were engineered, manufactured, and tested in-house at Straatman’s production facility. This ensures full control over quality, performance, and reliability. Each hook unit is equipped with integrated capstans to assist with mooring line handling during vessel operations. The hooks also include a Mooring Load Monitoring System. This system continuously measures the forces acting on the mooring lines. Operators can monitor these loads in real time to improve operational safety. In addition, the hooks feature a remote release system. Operators can release the hooks quickly from a safe location if required.

Designed for hazardous environments

All electrical components are Zone 1 certified, making them suitable for hazardous environments commonly found at oil and gas terminals. Before delivery, we load-tested under third-party supervision each hook individually. This process confirms that the equipment meets all required safety and performance standards.

Installation and commissioning

We delivered the equipment recently and prepared for installation. On-site commissioning will follow shortly to ensure the system operates as intended. With this project, Straatman Mooring Systems continues to support safe and efficient mooring operations for energy terminals worldwide.
