107 pcs of 300T Smart Bollards for Prinses Amaliahaven
4 januari 2024
Straatman Mooring Systems will supply 107 Smart Bollards with a capacity of 300 tons for the Prinses Amaliahaven, one of the largest port development projects in the Port of Rotterdam. This project highlights the growing demand for innovative and safer mooring solutions in modern ports.
The Smart Bollard is a patented innovation developed by Straatman and represents an important step toward the digitalization of port infrastructure. Unlike traditional bollards, the Smart Bollard continuously measures the forces acting on a vessel’s mooring lines. In addition, the system monitors the direction of the lines. This real-time data is made available to the Port of Rotterdam Authority, giving port operators valuable insight into the loads affecting moored vessels.
By monitoring these forces, ports can respond more quickly to changing conditions such as strong winds or currents. This contributes to safer and more efficient port operations while helping to prevent potentially unsafe situations when vessels are berthed.
All 107 Smart Bollards will be installed on the new quay walls of the Prinses Amaliahaven. The first batch of units has already been produced and successfully tested at Straatman’s factory. During these tests, both 300-ton and 600-ton load tests were carried out as part of the type approval process.
The first Smart Bollards will be delivered later this year, while the complete project is expected to be fully operational in 2024.
The Smart Bollard was developed and tested in close cooperation with the Port of Rotterdam. This collaboration allowed practical experience from daily port operations to be directly translated into an innovative solution. The project also demonstrates the strength of Straatman’s in-house expertise, where engineering, production, and innovation come together to create products that add significant value to ports worldwide.
