Straatman delivers Navigation Aid System for CALM Buoy

At Straatman, we focus on engineering solutions that set new benchmarks for maritime safety and efficiency. We are excited to announce the successful completion of another innovative project: an advanced Navigation Aid System designed specifically for a CALM (Catenary Anchor Leg Mooring) Buoy.

This comprehensive system is fully equipped to operate reliably under the harshest offshore conditions. Our team expertly managed every stage of the process, from initial design and meticulous production to thorough testing.

The Navigation Aid System comprises crucial components including high-performance lights, robust foghorns, efficient solar panels, and an intelligent Load Monitoring System. Particularly noteworthy is the Load Monitoring System, designed to significantly enhance operational safety. It proactively alerts tanker personnel when the hawser load approaches potentially hazardous levels.

Central to the system’s operation is a sophisticated load controller logic module, programmed to activate visual alarm beacons once the predetermined load threshold is reached. Powered entirely by the system’s solar panels, this load controller is securely enclosed within an equipment panel, ensuring consistent reliability in even the most challenging environments.

Additionally, the system incorporates an explosion-proof telemetry module along with a dedicated laptop, enabling seamless, secure communication between the CALM Buoy and tanker personnel. This connectivity ensures rapid response times and improved situational awareness, significantly reducing operational risks and enhancing efficiency.
