Mooring project Equinor Kårstø terminal
1 August 2023
Straatman completed a mooring project for the Equinor Kårstø terminal in Norway. We finalised all the equipment in our factory and shipped it to the site. This project supports one of the most important energy hubs in Europe.
Key role of the Kårstø terminal
The Kårstø processing plant, located north of Stavanger, is the largest facility of its kind in Europe. It processes gas and condensate from major fields in the northern North Sea. Therefore, safe and reliable mooring operations are essential. Any disruption directly impacts the energy supply chain.

Upgrading mooring safety and performance
Straatman supplied a set of modern Quick Release Mooring Hook units. These units replace the existing installation and improve both safety and efficiency. Each hook includes:
- Explosion-proof Mooring Load Monitoring for real-time force insight
- Integrated capstans for efficient line handling
- Electric remote release system for safe operation from a distance
As a result, operators gain better control during berthing and can respond faster to changing conditions.
Designed for demanding environments
We designed the system according to the latest technical standards. The equipment performs reliably under harsh conditions, including offshore weather and continuous operation. In addition, the integrated systems provide real-time data and operational visibility. This supports safer decision-making during vessel handling.
Supporting critical energy infrastructure
With this project, Straatman contributes to the safe and efficient operation of a key European gas terminal. At the same time, we strengthen our position in delivering advanced mooring solutions for high-demand environments. We continue to support terminals worldwide with reliable, high-performance systems that improve safety and operational control.
