Bow Coupling Installation for Split Hopper Dredger

Within a challenging time frame we completed the production of a complete bow coupling installation consisting of guide ring construction, integrated female part and male part. This bow coupling installation will be used on a split hopper dredger and has an inside diameter of 500 mm.

Specifications of this bow coupling project

On behalf of our client DMOS (Dredging Marine Offshore) we received the order for the production and delivery of our well-known bow coupling installation. For this specific project we produced both guide ring and gantry construction, the female part and the male part which will be connected to the floating pipe line. The nominal inner diameter of this bow coupling is 500 mm. and can be used up to a working pressure of 10 Bar. The maximum rotating angle of the male part is 15°.

This bow coupling installation will be used on an existing split hopper dredger, which is modified for a foreign dredging company.

Bow coupling

Did you know Straatman invented the dredging bow coupling?

In the early 80s, Straatman (at the time: Van De Graaf) created the very first bow coupling. This effective discharge system connects a trailing suction hopper dredger to a floating discharge pipeline. It allows for a quick and controlled discharge of dredged material from the vessel to any location. Today, bow couplings are used worldwide for various applications, including beach and land reclamation, construction and mining applications.
